Young Musician of the Year 2017
We are delighted to be able to announce the schedule for the 2017 Young Musician of the Year competition which is sponsored by Rotary.
As the previous years' competitions have shown, this is an effective way of promoting music in schools to a high level of proficiency. Competitors have the opportunity to perform on their choice of instruments in public at a local, regional and possibly national level through this national Rotary-inspired programme.
Entries will be invited at the start of the autumn school term, with a closing date at the end of November. The heats will be held on 15th January at Katharine Lady Berkeley School, Wotton under Edge, and at Westonbirt School on 29th January. The final will again be held at Wycliffe College on Sunday 19th February, starting again this year at 3.30pm
As in previous years the overall winner will receive the Mervyn Norris Cup and a prize of £300. The second prize will be £200 and the third prize £100.
The winner of the strings section will also receive the Hughes Family Trophy. The Woodwind Trophy is being sponsored by the Jenner family, by way of recognition of how beneficial the competition has been in the development of Emily Jenner (previous winner) and Katie Jenner (section winner and finalist). The committee also make the Perkin Award to the contestant they consider to be most deserving of encouragement.
Further details will be available on this web site and on our Facebook page in due course.
