What is Rotary?

Rotary International is a worldwide organisation of men and women who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities at home and overseas.

Rotarians provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help to build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary is inclusive of all cultures, races and creeds.

There are Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries and territories; Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland has over 56,000 members in over 1840 Rotary Clubs.

It is not all work; Networking & Friendship is the order of the day. The weekly meetings usually involve a speaker and a meal and are not only great fun, but also, are an excellent way to keep in touch with what is going on in the community.

Beyond the special events (see next page) such as street collections, Rotarians use their vocational skills to serve their local communities with a range of projects with a strong emphasis on helping young people from primary school to helping university students to complete post-graduate studies in another country.

Rotary is the largest global volunteer network and it is a non-religious, non-political organisation; it is also the largest non-governmental providers of humanitarian, educational and cultural support programmes in the world.
